Free Upgrade

When we arrived at the hotel for the wedding we were greeted by the smiling receptionist who told us we had been upgraded to a deluxe room for free.

Surprised and happy we went up the winding stairs to drop our heavy bags. The 4 and a half hour trip had taken its toll, we wanted to relax for a while.

The room earned the title deluxe. It was massive and looked lovely. It was bigger than my first flat.

We didn’t care why we had been upgraded, we never even though to ask.

That was 4 weeks ago, we were only supposed to be here for the weekend.

We can’t leave, we know we should but we haven’t even tried.

The complimentary tea and biscuits reappear every morning they are all we have to survive on. What is wrong with us why haven’t we tried to go home? We know were prisoners here but we in truth don’t seem to care.

Maybe this is home.
